Today we spent winding up a few activities. We have finished, at least for now, our narrative reading and writing unit. I am proud of the students and all of the progress they have made in describing characters and building basic comprehension skills. This is obviously an important part of reading and we will continue working on these skills, but the foundation has been set. The next few weeks we will begin a nonfiction unit.
Today we also finished daily 5 groups as they have been running. On Monday most of the students will be staying with me to work on identified needs for building reading skills, including building vocabulary, comprehension, practicing spelling, and other language needs in order to continue pushing them to their next steps.
