Each day we do a quick grammar review. You may have seen a paper come home towards the end of the week that has different grammar questions. In third grade students should be able to recognize the basic parts of speech: noun, verb, adjective, and pronoun. They are also working on adding conjunctions and adverbs to their list. One goal for us this year is to recognize them in sentences and identify the words that the adjectives and adverbs modify. If you would like to help your child in this area of their learning, you could give your child a word for example spaghetti, and have them tell you whether it is a noun, verb, adjective, or pronoun. You could have them use some adjectives to describe the spaghetti, and use a verb to tell what they do with the spaghetti. The more creative the better!
