Today when we went to the computer lab we did a growth monitoring check for our math. Our goal is to do this once a month and then move our birds on our personal number lines. The students are trying to get their birds to the nest. A lot of the students moved closer, and sadly some moved further away from the nest. This is a great visual to students though of where they are and where we really want them to be. Part of the discussion that is coming with this is that if is important for us to write out the problems and solve on paper. Math is not meant to be done all in our heads. It is perfectly okay it it takes longer to solve problems because we are writing them out and we are getting them correct.
