## Fractions

After Christmas vacation we began our fourth math unit. This unit will focus on fractions. The students will be able to recognize fractions and will get a lot of practice at naming them. We will then move into identifying fractions on a number line. We will continue will several additional weeks of recognizing equivalent fractions and comparing two fractions.

As this unit proceeds it is important that we continue working on developing the knowledge from the first half of the year. Multiplication, division, as well as place value skills have not been forgotten. :)

## Operations and Algebraic Thinking

We will begin our year by discussing the meaning of the multiplication sign, learning basic facts for both multiplication and division, and discussing a variety of properties of multiplication.

We will be spending time learning our multiplication facts to build fluency in the students. The sooner the students know their basic facts the easier the concepts will become for them. I would encourage the students to practice these at home as well. Below are a couple links that students may use to play some multiplication math games.
